The music of Stephane Grappelli, Django Reinhardt, and the Hot Club de France is the inspiration for The Hot Club of San Francisco. Through an innovative special collaboration with San Francisco Silent Film Festival, The Hot Club of San Francisco presents Silent Surrealism, an evening of silent surrealist films with live gypsy jazz. Several short silent films by Charlie Bowers such as “Now You Tell One” and “It’s a Bird”, as well as films by James Sibley Watson and Harold Shaw, will be accompanied by the distinctive music created by the all-string ensemble of violin, bass and guitars. Breathing new life into the music, The Hot Club of San Francisco is committed to keeping the historic music of gypsy jazz fresh and alive through innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the groups superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling.
